Month-by-month breakdown of weather, court availability, and pricing across Spain, Portugal, and southern Europe.
Southern Europe is playable year-round, but every month has its own character. Court availability, accommodation pricing, flight costs, and even the style of social play shift with the seasons. Here is a month-by-month breakdown of what to expect across our most popular destinations.
Winter Sun (December to February)
December through February is the secret weapon of the padel holiday calendar. The Costa del Sol and Algarve average sixteen to eighteen degrees during the day with clear skies. Court bookings are easier, accommodation is cheaper, and the social scene at clubs is welcoming but not oversubscribed. The only caveat is shorter daylight hours; book morning and early afternoon sessions to avoid finishing in the dark. Rain is rare but possible, so confirm indoor backup options.
January is particularly quiet. You will have the pick of courts and restaurants, and accommodation rates are at their lowest. It is the best value window of the entire year.
- Costa del Sol: 16–20°C, dry, busy with northern European retirees
- Algarve: 15–18°C, calm, excellent for mixed-ability groups
- Lisbon: 14–17°C, city breaks combine padel with sightseeing
- Mallorca: cooler at 13–16°C but beautiful and quiet
Spring (March to May)
March to May is arguably the sweet spot. Temperatures rise to the low twenties, wildflowers bloom in the Algarve hills, and every destination opens fully after winter maintenance. Barcelona and Valencia are particularly glorious in April; the cities are lively without summer crowds, and outdoor courts feel perfect. Flight prices from the UK remain reasonable until late May. Book six to eight weeks ahead for Easter slots, which fill quickly with club groups.
This is also the best season for combining padel with cycling or hiking. The trails are open, the temperatures are kind, and the post-match recovery walks are beautiful.
- Barcelona: ideal city-padel balance, mild evenings
- Valencia: court availability excellent, less tourist pressure
- Costa del Sol: warming up, perfect for intensive coaching weeks
- Algarve: green landscapes, great for groups with non-padel partners
Summer (June to August)
Summer brings heat, and heat changes everything. Early morning sessions (eight to ten) and evening slots (six to eight) are the only comfortable options in inland Spain. Coastal venues like Mallorca and Mykonos benefit from sea breezes, but midday play is still punishing. This is peak family holiday season, so flights and accommodation cost more. The advantage is long daylight hours and a festive atmosphere at every club.
Hydration becomes critical. We recommend booking accommodation with a pool and scheduling a long midday break. It is the season for socialising as much as for serious play.
- Mallorca: sea breezes, resort atmosphere, great for families
- Mykonos: glamorous scene, early morning play essential
- Barcelona: hot but manageable with indoor court options
- Costa del Sol: very warm; book 8am or 7pm sessions
Autumn (September to November)
September and October deliver shoulder-season value. The summer crowds have left, prices drop, and temperatures settle back into the mid-twenties. This is the best time for dedicated coaching weeks; you get pro attention without fighting for court space. November can bring occasional rain to Portugal and northern Spain, but the Costa del Sol and Algarve remain reliable. Flights back to the UK are often cheapest in late October.
October half-term is a hidden gem for families. The water is still warm enough for swimming, the courts are quiet, and the restaurants have tables available again.
- September: warm water, empty courts, post-summer calm
- October: ideal for coaching trips, moderate temperatures
- November: cheapest flights, quiet resorts, reliable in the south
- Barcelona and Lisbon: cultural season starts, indoor backups available
There is no bad time for a padel holiday, but there is a best time for your priorities. Want value and quiet courts? Choose winter or autumn. Want atmosphere and long evenings? Choose spring or early summer.
